ORLANDO, Fla. – Jack Gibbs scored a game-high 28 points and Peyton Aldridge recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, to lead Davidson to a 68-60 victory over Arizona State on the final day of the 2016 Tire Pros Invitational at the HP Field House.
In addition to tying the tournament's three-game scoring record with 71 points, Gibbs finished 16-of-21 at the charity stripe, grabbed 6 rebounds and handed out 4 assists.
Will Magarity put together his best performance in a Davidson (3-1) uniform with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks in 31 minutes of action.
After the Wildcats pushed their lead to as many as 18 early in the second half, the Sun Devils slowly chipped away at the deficit and made it a four-point game with 31 ticks to play on a Shannon Evans' trey.
Gibbs connected on four straight free throws in the closing seconds to put the game away.
For the second straight outing, the Wildcats were impressive at the defensive end holding Arizona State (3-2) to just 32.4 percent.
Trailing 16-15, Davidson closed the first half on a 16-6 spurt, highlighted by 9 points from Rusty Reigel, to take a 31-22 advantage into the break.
Tra Holder paced four Sun Devils in double digits with 18 points to go along with 8 boards.
Despite shooting just 41.3 percent, the Wildcats held a commanding 44-35 margin on the glass.
