DAVIDSON, N.C. – Jordan Watkins led five Davidson players in double figures with a game-high 22 points and the Wildcats claimed the Hornets' Nest Trophy for the fourth straight season, with a 79-57 victory over cross-county rival Charlotte, Saturday afternoon at John M. Belk Arena.
 
A junior from Charlotte, Watkins finished 7-of-9 from the floor and drilled six of Davidson's nine 3-pointers.
 
Preseason all-conference selections Peyton Aldridge and Jack Gibbs scored 13 points each, Will Magarity recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Jon Axel Gudmundsson added 11 points for the Wildcats.
 
Davidson (4-1), which held the 49ers to just 27.9 percent from the field, raced out to a 28-8 advantage before going to the half up, 43-28.
 
Najee Garvin paced Charlotte (3-2) with 12 points.
 
The Wildcats began the second half on a 21-4 spurt to stretch the margin to as many as 32 with 10 minutes to play.
 
In addition to shooting 41.8 percent overall and going 14-of-15 (.933) at the free-throw line, the Wildcats held a commanding 53-38 margin on the glass.
