HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Hannah Fisher delivered a hat trick Sunday, leading Davidson field hockey to a 3-0 win over Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y., and their fourth win of the year.
The Wildcats improve to 4-12 on the season, picking up their first road victory of the year, while Colgate drops to 1-14.
Fisher is the first Wildcat to collect a hat trick since 2013, when now-alumna Melissa Funsten picked up three goals in Davidson's 4-3 overtime victory over Vermont. She scored off helpers from sophomore Courtney Byler, and seniors Katherine English and Becca Jones.
The duo of keepers Bean Rodriguez and Sarah Zeszotarski combined for the Wildcats first shutout of the year, with Rodriguez logging four saves and Zeszotarski picking up one late in the second period.
Fisher's first goal came within the first ten minutes of the contest, picking up a failed shot from Byler off a penalty corner. The second goal was in much the same fashion, only it was English who took the first shot, and Fisher sent the ball into the high corner of the cage.
With a 2-0 lead after halftime, Davidson started the second session in a defensive mode, allowing Colgate to record four shots before the 'Cats were awarded another penalty corner.
Fisher once again sent the ball in, finding the stick of Jones who passed it directly back to her on the left side of the cage.
Davidson continues its road tour, traveling to St. Louis, Mo., next weekend to face Atlantic 10 opponent Saint Louis before a non-conference clash with Missouri State on Sunday.
