DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team started its Spring season off with a tough 6-1 defeat to one-time Southern Conference foe Furman Friday in the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats' (0-1) lone team point came from freshman Megan Scholvinck at No. 3 singles. She came back from a set down (6-2) to pull out a three-set victory, taking 6-2 and 6-3 decisions in the next two sets for her first collegiate win.

Two other 'Cats went to three sets, but were unable to pull them out. Anna Catharine Feaster won her first set at No. 1 singles, 6-4, but then dropped 6-3 and 6-0 decisions in the next two sets.

In her first collegiate match, Gabrielle Centenari went the distance as well. She came out strong with a 6-4 win, but Furman's Karlee Bryde came back to score a 6-4 victory in the second set and then finished the match with a 6-2 win.

In doubles action, the Paladins (2-2) took wins at No. 2 and 3 positions to earn the first team point. The tandem of Elaina Cummer and Sarah Stein picked up their first win together with a solid 6-2 decision at No. 1.

The Wildcats finish out the weekend with a 1 p.m. match at home vs. Gardner-Webb Sunday. The match is a makeup date after a snowstorm canceled the original match set back on Jan. 23.
