DAVIDSON, N.C. — Four different Wildcats earned their first singles wins of the year in helping lead Davidson to a 4-3 win at home over Gardner-Webb Sunday afternoon in women's tennis on the Davidson Tennis Courts.
The quartet of Anna Catharine Feaster, Ava Todd, Gabrielle Centenari and Elaina Cummer each picked up straight set singles wins to help the 'Cats (1-1) erase an early 1-0 deficit in the match.
Gardner-Webb opened the match with doubles wins at No. 1 and 3 positions by the scores of 6-4. The Wildcat duo of Feaster and Jenna Brunner won their first doubles match together with a 6-3 decision at No. 2 to prevent the Runnin Bulldogs from sweeping the doubles.
Davidson regrouped to net singles wins at No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 for the win. Feaster won her 17th career match with a solid 6-2, 6-3 decision at the top spot.
Todd gave up just four games in a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2, the 20th of her career, while freshman Centenari followed with her first collegiate win. The first-year also gave up only four games in a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4.
The senior Cummer capped off the team win with a nice 7-5, 6-1 decision at No. 5.
The Wildcats continue their six-match homestand to start the year with a pair of matches next weekend, Feb. 6-7, against USC-Upstate and Western Carolina. Match times are set for 12 and 1 p.m.
