
Gibbs Hits 1,000 Career Points, Scores 43 in Win Over UMass

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to becoming the 48th player in school history to hit the 1,000-point plateau, Jack Gibbs scored a career-high 43 points to lead Davidson past Massachusetts, 86-74, in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Saturday at Belk Arena.
A junior from Westerville, Ohio, Gibbs went over the 40-point mark for the third time this season, while going 12-of-26 from the floor and 15-of-16 at the free-throw line. The reigning A-10 Player of the Week, Gibbs flirted with a triple-double contributing 8 rebounds and 8 assists in 40 minutes action.
Peyton Aldridge recorded his second straight double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Rusty Reigel added a personal-best 10 points off the bench. Nathan Ekwu also turned in a solid performance for the Wildcats with 7 points and 10 boards.
After the Minutemen went up 69-67 on a Donte Clark triple with 4:16 to play, Davidson (11-5, 3-2 A-10) closed on a 17-5 run to secure its 15th straight home win and 30th in the last 31 on McKillop Court.
As a team, Davidson shot 44.1 percent, drilled 10 3-pointers and finished 24-of-26 (.923) at the charity stripe. The Wildcats were impressive at the defensive end limiting UMass to just 37.1 percent overall.
Trey Davis paced three Minutemen in double figures with 30 points, including 8 3-pointers, which ties a school record for most in a contest.
Gibbs started and capped a 19-4 Davidson run with 3-pointers to put the Wildcats up 19-8, midway through the opening period. UMass (8-9, 1-4 A-10) responded with a lengthy run of its own and went back in front, 35-29, thanks to three straight treys from Davis. Davidson closed the first half with five unanswered to cut the deficit to 35-34 at the break.
Davidson held a commanding 45-35 advantage on the glass.

Davidson will continue its stretch of five out of seven on the road with an 8 p.m. (EST) contest at Saint Louis Wednesday evening.
