DAVIDSON, N.C. —  Despite freshman Ava Todd winning her team-best seventh straight singles match, Davidson dropped its second close decision in a row as the Wildcats fell 4-3 at home to East Carolina Saturday morning in women's tennis in the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats, who had their five-match win streak snapped Wednesday in a 4-3 defeat to James Madison, fell to 5-3 overall, while ECU ran its record to 7-2 on the season.

In doubles to open the match, the Pirates took the No 2 and 3 positions to grab the early lead in team points. The duo of Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton saw their seven-match win streak to open the season come to an end with a 6-2 setback at No. 2.

Todd earned one of the Wildcats' three team points in singles action as she moved to a team-best 7-1 on the season with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 4. It was the freshman's first win at that spot.

Elaina Cummer and Sarah Stein each scored the other two singles wins at No. 1 and 3, respectively. Cummer moved to 5-3 on the season at the top spot with a 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (8-6) win.

Stein also improved to 5-3 after rallying from a set down to earn a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Davidson, in the midst of playing 10 of 11 matches at home from Jan. 31-March 15, next plays its first-ever Atlantic 10 matches. The Wildcats will host George Mason and Richmond, March 7-8.
