DAVIDSON, N.C. – Brian Sullivan scored his 1,000th career point and paced five Davidson players in double figures with 19 as the Wildcats defeated George Mason, 92-71, Wednesday evening at Belk Arena.
Sullivan, the third transfer and 47th player in a Davidson (16-6, 7-4 A-10) uniform to hit the milestone, scored all 19 of his points in the first 20 minutes of action. The junior shooting guard also dished out a game-high seven assists and made all six of his free throws.
Tyler Kalinoski and Jordan Barham each added 18 points for the 'Cats, while Jordan Watkins and Oskar Michelsen finished with 12 and 11, respectively.
Davidson finished the contest shooting 48.2 percent and made 26-of-32 from the charity stripe. The Wildcats also handed out 21 assists on 27 field goals and scored 27 points off 16 Patriot miscues.
The Wildcats, who drilled 12 more triples tonight, pushed their lead to as many as 28 with under 12 minutes to play on a Watkins' 3-pointer.
Despite the setback, Mason (7-16, 2-9 A-10) shot 69.2 percent after intermission to finish the game at 55.8 percent, but went just 1-of-8 from long range and 12-of-26 at the line.
Shevon Thompson recorded his 12th career double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds for George Mason, which held a 35-29 edge on the boards. Corey Edwards (13), Isaiah Jackson (12) and Trey Porter (12) also went over the 10-point plateau for the Patriots.
In addition to opening 5-of-5 from the floor, including four treys, the Wildcats' closed the first period on a 15-6 spurt to take a 50-30 lead into the break.
Davidson will play three of its next four on the road beginning with a 2 p.m. contest at La Salle Saturday.
