DAVIDSON, N.C. – Peyton Aldridge scored 23 points and Jordan Barham recorded a double-double (19 pts, 11 rebs) to lead Davidson past Mercer, 77-71, in non-conference men's basketball action Monday night at Belk Arena.
In addition to the Wildcats improving to 3-0, Head Coach Bob McKillop picked up career win No. 499.
Oskar Michelsen added 17 points, including five of Davidson's nine 3-pointers, while Brian Sullivan had 12 points to go along with a career-high 9 assists in 40 minutes.
The Wildcats shot just 37.1 percent overall, but connected on 22-of-28 from the charity stripe. Davidson also turned 14 Mercer (3-1) miscues into 26 points at the other end.
Stephon Jelks led the Bears with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Jestin Lewis finished with 10 points.
The Wildcats opened the second half on a 14-5 run and stretched their lead to as many as 16, 55-39, with 12:49 to play.
After a Jordan Strawberry trey with 1:03 left capped a 16-5 Mercer streak to cut the deficit to 69-67, the Wildcats got four straight from Nathan Ekwu to put the game out of reach.
Mercer held a 50-37 advantage on the glass, including 17 at the offensive end.
The Bears also struggled offensively shooting just 40 percent from the floor.
Davidson, which got 12 points from Michelsen in the first 20 minutes, used a 10-3 spurt late in the period to break a 26-26 tie, before going to the half up, 36-31.
