DAVIDSON, N.C. – Brian Sullivan paced four Davidson players in double figures with 23 points to lead the Wildcats to an 83-70 victory over Denison, Saturday at John M. Belk Arena, giving head coach Bob McKillop his 500th career win.
In addition to the milestone, Davidson is off to a 4-0 start for the first time in McKillop's 27 years at the helm.
Sullivan, a senior from Upper Arlington, Ohio, finished 9-of-17 from the floor, including five 3-pointers, while grabbing 5 rebounds and handing out 4 assists in 36 minutes.
The Wildcats, who shot 44.3 percent and drilled 10 treys, also got double figures from Peyton Aldridge (19), Jake Belford (14) and Jack Gibbs (10). Belford also grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
After Denison (3-2) cut the deficit to eight, 61-53, midway through the second half, the Wildcats responded with 11 straight points capped off by a Rusty Reigel triple to put the game out of reach.
Davidson held a 43-34 advantage on the glass, including 15 offensive rebounds, which led to 26 second-chance points. The Wildcats also finished with 20 assists on 27 field goals.
Jett Speelman scored 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting to lead the way for the Big Red, who bettered the Wildcats from long range hitting 15-of-37 attempts.
Despite Denison drilling nine first-half 3-pointers, Davidson closed the period on a 10-2 spurt to take a 45-37 lead into the break.
