DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team made it a historic day for new head coach Sara Anundsen, netting a 6-1 victory over Arkansas State to give her the first career win of her coaching career Saturday morning in the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats evened their record to 1-1, earning the doubles point and then taking five of the six singles matches. The Wolves fell to 0-3 on the young season.

The match opened up with the duo of Elaina Cummer and Jenna Brunner winning their second straight doubles match to open the season with a 6-3 decision at No. 1. Davidson sealed up the doubles point when Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton won their second in a row as well, taking a 6-4 victory at No. 2.

The pair of Ava Todd and Sarah Stein nearly helped Davidson sweep the doubles, but fell short in a tie-breaker, 7-4.

The Wildcats moved onto singles and captured five straight-set victories at every spot but the No. 1 position. Feaster and Todd won their first collegiate matches by taking 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-2 victories, respectively, at No. 2 and 5 positions.

Also registering her first-ever collegiate win was Cassidy Shell at No. 6, tallying a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Capturing the final two singles points was Stein and Brunner, who each scored their first wins of the 2015 season. At No. 3, Stein pulled out a 6-4, 6-4 win, while Brunner rolled at No. 4 by netting a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Davidson, in the midst of playing 10 of 11 matches at home from Jan. 31-March 14, will host former Southern Conference-foe Wofford, Feb. 5, at 5 p.m.
