Match Results vs. Wofford

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Four Wildcats won their second straight singles matches and Davidson took down its former Southern Conference foe Wofford, 6-1, Thursday evening in non-conference women's tennis action in the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats (2-1) won their second in a row and avenged a 4-3 defeat to the Terriers (4-2) in their final SoCon match in the league tournament last year.

Sophomroe Sarah Stein along with the freshmen trio Anna C. Feaster, Ava Todd and Cassidy Shell all won their second consecutive singles matches in helping the 'Cats take five of the six positions.

Stein improved to 2-0 at No. 3 when she came back from a 6-1 first-set defeat to score 6-3 and 6-2 wins in the next two sets. Feaster and Todd each rolled to straight-set victories, taking 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-3 wins at No. 2 and 5 positions, respectively.

Shell picked up a hard-fought win at No. 6, securing a 6-2, 7-6 (7) victory for her second career win. Rounding out the singles wins was Elaina Cummer, who started out by taking an 8-6 win in a tie-breaker and then finished her match off with a 6-3 victory in the second set.

Jenna Brunner, fresh off earning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week Tuesday, saw her two-match singles win streak come to an end. She forced a third set at No. 4 after falling 6-3 in the first set by taking a 6-1 win in the second set. The final set went down to the wire, but the sophomore came up short in 7-5 tie-breaker defeat.

Davidson opened the match sweeping the doubles point, taking all three positions by the score of 6-2. Cummer and Brunner along with Feaster and Ally Sexton, the Wildcats' top two teams, remained perfect on the season at 3-0. Todd and Stein at No. 3 won their first of the year together.

Davidson wraps up its four-match homestand with a doubleheader, Feb. 14, against Wingate at 10 a.m. and then Gardner-Webb in the afternoon at 2 p.m.
