DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to Peyton Aldridge (22) and Tyler Kalinoski (21) combining for 43 points, Davidson shot 51.7 percent, including 12-of-23 from long range as the Wildcats knocked off No. 22/22 Dayton, 77-60, Tuesday at John M. Belk Arena.
Both Aldridge and Kalinoski finished 9-of-14 from the floor, while playing 40 minutes each. Oskar Michelsen also contributed double figures with 11 for the Wildcats, who recorded their first win over a ranked opponent since knocking off then-No. 11/12 Kansas, 80-74, on Dec. 19, 2011 in Kansas City.
Davidson broke a 10-10 tie with a 13-3 run early in the first half and never relinquished the lead. After Dayton (15-3, 5-1 A-10) cut the deficit to 28-25, the Wildcats responded with another spurt to push the margin to double digits where it would stay the rest of the way.
Despite playing without Jack Gibbs and four players with two fouls each in the first half, the Wildcats carried a 45-33 lead into the break.
Davidson (13-4, 4-2 A-10), which handed out 22 assists on 30 field goals, was just as impressive at the defensive end forcing 16 turnovers. Brian Sullivan led the way with seven assists, while Kalinoski added six.
Jordan Sibert and Kendall Pollard were the lone Flyers in double figures with 23 points each.
Both teams finished with 29 rebounds.
The win was the 15th straight at home for the Wildcats and their first-ever over a ranked opponent at Belk Arena.
Davidson will close out January with a pair of road contests beginning with a 7 p.m. tip at George Mason Saturday evening.
