DAVIDSON, N.C. —
Looking to send their four seniors off on a winning note in their last home match, the Davidson women's tennis team fell just short as they dropped a 4-3 decision on Senior Day to UNCG Saturday afternoon in Southern Conference play at the Covington Tennis Courts.

The Wildcats wrapped up their regular season with a 7-17 record and finished 2-7 in SoCon play.

Playing their final home matches were Brites Moniz-Soares, Nisha Crouser, Tamara Hill and Elise Held. Moniz-Soares was the lone senior to take home a win on the afternoon.

Davidson nearly took the doubles point with it coming down to the No. 2 team of Nisha Crouser and Jenna Brunner. The duo battled it out until the end, falling 8-7 to give the Spartans (8-12, 5-4 SoCon) the early 1-0 lead.

Moniz-Soares and Elaina Cummer won their 11th doubles match together with a solid 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

The 'Cats came back to get all three of their team points in singles, but UNCG was able to get wins at No. 3, 5 and 6 to secure the win. Moving to a team-best 13-10 was Moniz-Soares at No. 1 as she won a three-setter. The senior came back from dropping a 6-3 decision to win 6-2 and 6-4 in the next two sets.

Cummer hit the double-digit mark in wins on the season with her 10th by scoring a third-set super tie-breaker. She won her first set 7-6, but fell 6-3 to force the last set. Since the team match was decided, she played at super tie-breaker vs. Kayla Gammie and won 10-6 to improve to 10-14 on the season.

Scoring the 'Cats' last point was freshman Jenna Brunner at No. 4. She rattled off a 6-0, 7-5 win to improve to 11-10 on the season.

In her final home match, Hill dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 5 to Devon Sutherland. Hill has played a career-high 17 singles matches this year.

Davidson will now ready itself for its final run in the Southern Conference Tournament next week, April 16-19, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
