Wildcats Drop 7-0 Decision at Chattanooga to Finish Weekend

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — In the midst of playing five matches in a nine-day span, the Davidson women's tennis team dropped its second of the five matches they will play with a 7-0 defeat at Chattanooga Saturday morning in Southern Conference action.
Davidson suffered its sixth loss in a row, falling to under .500 at 7-8 overall and are 0-6 in league matches. Chattanooga, which just fell out of the Top-75 of the ITA ranks after being ranked 67th last week, improved to 14-3 overall and 4-3 in league play.
The Mocs swept all three doubles matches by the scores of 8-1, 8-3 and 8-3 at the three spots.
Davidson battled in singles play, but were not able to score a team point. The 'Cats dropped five of the six singles spots in straight sets. Stephani Synn, who gave Davidson a point the day before at Samford, pushed Kayla Jones to a third set by taking the second one, 6-4. Jones came back and netted a 6-2 win over the senior to finish the match off after she earned a 6-1 set-one win.
Nisha Crouser went to a tie-breaker in the second set against Alexa Flynn at No. 4, but dropped the tie-breaker 7-4. She lost the first set by the score of 6-1.
Fellow classmate Brites Moniz-Soares played well at No. 1 singles, netting eight games, but fell 6-3, 7-5 to Jenna Nurik.
Davidson returns home for a two-match SoCon stretch, starting at 3 p.m. against Wofford, Apr. 2.
