GREENSBORO, N.C. — Playing its second ranked opponent this year, Davidson was unable to take the upset this time as it fell 6-1 to host No. 65 UNCG in a Southern Conference women's tennis match Sunday afternoon.
Davdison fell to 7-6 on the season and is still seeking its first league victory, falling to 0-4. UNCG remained perfect in SoCon play at 5-0, while moving to 9-4 overall.
The 'Cats earlier this season faced No. 72 East Carolina and pulled out the win 4-3, but the Spartans did not allow the Wildcats to attempt another upset, taking all three doubles spots and then earning wins in five of the singles slots for the win.
Davidson dropped a pair of 8-5 decisions at both No. 1 and 2 doubles, while falling 8-4 at No. 3.
The lone Wildcat to score a point on the afternoon was Nisha Crouser, who pulled out a three-set match at No. 4. The junior fell in her first set 6-4, but stormed back with 6-2 and 6-3 wins in the next two sets for her team-best eighth singles win of the season.
Elaina Cummer and Stephani Synn nearly gave Davidson two more points, going the full three sets against their two Spartan opponents at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Cummer took the first set, 6-2, before seeing Dilara Yurtkuran win 6-0 and 6-3 in the next two for the win.
Synn also opened her match against Alex Whitehead with a 6-3 triumph, but was unable to keep the momentum going, dropping a pair of 6-4 decisions in the next two sets.
Davidson continues its three-match road trip and seeks to halt a four-match skid by play at Samford and Chattanooga, March 29 & 30.
