DAVIDSON, N.C. –  Afreyea Tolbert (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Latisha Harris (18, 10) each recorded double-doubles to lead College of Charleston and the Cougars held on for a 74-71 victory over Davidson in Southern Conference women's basketball action Monday evening at Belk Arena.

Cathryn Hardy also pulled down double-digit rebounds with a game-high 11 for the Cougars, who held a commanding 58-38 advantage on the glass, including 23 at the offensive end that led to 21 second-chance points.

Alyssa Frye and Mikaela Hopkins added 10 points each for the CofC (11-12, 7-7 SoCon), who ended the Wildcats' season-best six-game winning streak and recorded just its seventh win in 36 meetings.

Laura Murray led three Wildcats (14-9, 11-2 SoCon) in double figures with 18 points, scoring 16 of them in the second half to help the 'Cats score a season-high 51 points.

Sophia Aleksandravicius contributed her 42nd career double-double (12th on the season) with 15 points and 11
sophia
rebounds, while Hannah Early finished with 10 points off the bench.

Trailing 60-47 following a Harris layup, Davidson finally found its rhythm and went on a 19-5 streak capped off by a Katrin Chiemeka trey, to take a 66-65 lead with 2:27 remaining. But after the Wildcats took their first lead since it was 2-0, College of Charleston scored on consecutive trips to retake the lead for good.

Chiemeka hit her second triple of the half to make it 72-71 with 33 ticks left, but a pair of free throws by Harris made it 74-71 and an errant three-point try from Chiemeka with three ticks left went off the side of the rim to end Davidson's comeback attempt.

Both teams shot just under 40 percent from the floor, but the Wildcats were done in by a 26 percent first-half shooting performance that resulted in a 33-20 halftime deficit.

In addition to holding the Wildcats to just 26 percent in the first half, CofC closed the opening period on a 16-7 run, highlighted by 10 points from Harris, to take the 13-point lead into the break.

Despite the loss, Davidson drilled 9-of-23 attempts from three-land, including six in the second stanza. The Wildcats hit four of the six treys in the last 4:26 when it came back from 14 down (58-44) with nine minutes left.

Davidson finished with 19 assists on 26 field goals and seven blocks.

The Wildcats continue on with their three-game homestand this weekend with a 2 p.m. contest Saturday against Furman. Gametime is set for 2 p.m.
