CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Unable to muster an offense, the Davidson field hockey team took a loss to one of the top teams in the nation, falling 10-0 to the third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels at Henry Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 5-10 on the season, while UNC moves to 12-2 on the season.

Led by Anne Federico, Davidson had five shots on the day with Federico notching a pair of attempts. Lucy Pidcock, Tyler McFayden and Katherine English each took a shot as well.

Emily Leytham and Carolyn Macek split time in goal, with Macek stopping six shots. Danielle King also came up with a defensive save as the Tar Heels outshot the Wildcats 23-5 and held a 6-1 advantage on penalty corners.

UNC got on the board five and a half minutes into the contest, as Charlotte Craddock scored off a penalty corner to give them a 1-0 lead. Nina Notman and Samantha Travers followed suit to make it 3-0 midway through the half before Sinead Loughran notched her first of the contest. Marta Malmburg scored on a pass from Notman just before the end of the half to give the Tar Heels a 5-0 lead.

The Tar Heels kept it rolling in the second half as Loughran added her second of the contest less than a minute in. Notman followed with her second of the game to push UNC in front 7-0 before Casey Di Nardo closed things with a hat trick to give the Tar Heels the 10-0 triumph.

Davidson returns to Belk Turf Field Friday evening when they host Liberty. The Wildcats will take on the Flames in their annual Stick it to Cancer game at 6:30 pm.
