Davidson W. Tennis Falls 7-0 to Rival Furman in Regular Season Finale

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Playing its final regular season match on the road, Davidson fell to rival Furman, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon in women's tennis Southern Conference action at Mickel Tennis Center.
Davidson finished out the regular season with a 5-18 mark and went 2-8 in SoCon play as it gears up for the league tournament next week, April 19-22, in Charleston, S.C. The Paladins moved their record to 13-9, 8-2 in the SoCon, which gives them the third seed in the tournament. The Wildcats fell to 2-33 all-time against its rival.
The Wildcats found themselves down 1-0 as Furman swept the doubles point, earning 8-2, 8-3 and 8-4 victories at No. 1, 2 and 3. It dropped the 'Cats record to 16-42 in doubles action this season, 6-18 in league matches.
Furman carried that momentum into singles play, sweeping all six positions for the 7-0 win. Brites Moniz-Soares suffered her first defeat in five matches as her four-match win streak was halted after a 6-1, 6-2 defeat. The sophomore closed out the regular season with a team-best mark of 14-6, including 7-3 in SoCon matches. She came into the match tied for tops in the league with a 13-2 record at No. 2 singles.
Senior Katharine Dicconson played her final regular season match of her career, dropping a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 3.
At No. 4 and 5, Nisha Crouser and Elise Held both had strong first sets as they won a combined seven games, but lost 6-4, 6-3, respectively, to their opponent. The duo then dropped 6-1, 6-2 decisions in the second set.
Davidson travels to Charleston, S.C., for the SoCon Tournament, which will take place April 19-22. The 'Cats tied for eighth place with their 2-8 record.
