Mt. PLEASANT, S.C. — Sophomore Brite Moniz-Soares won her team-leading 15th singles match, but it was not enough to keep Davidson in the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Tournament as the Wildcats season ended with a first-round 4-1 defeat to eighth-seeded Georgia Southern on Thursday afternoon.
Davidson conlcuded its season at 5-19 overall, while GSU improves to 6-14 and moves onto the second round to face top-seed UNCG tomorrow, April 20, at 8:30 a.m.
Since rain was in the area, no doubles matches were played as the team match started with singles. Moniz-Soares cruised to her first shutout of the season when she blanked Allison Beeler, 6-0, 6-0 to score the lone team point for the 'Cats.
The sophomore wrapped up a solid second year, earning All-SoCon Second Team honors at No. 2 singles and finishing with a 15-6 record. She was 14-3 at the No. 2 singles slot on the season and won seven of her final 10 matches on the season.
Senior Katharine Dicconson played her final match as a Wildcat, dropping a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 3 singles. The four-year letterwinner closed with five singles wins in her final season and had 11 for her career. Dicconson also added another 16 in doubles play, including eight this season.
