W. Tennis Picks Up Solid 5-2 Road Win at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Playing its final two regular season matches on the road, Davidson started its final two matches in winning fashion with a solid 5-2 triumph at Wofford on Wednesday afternoon in women's tennis Southern Conference action.

Davidson (5-17, 2-7 SoCon) tallied its second league win and halted a two-match losing skid. Wofford fell to 5-14 overall and 1-8 in SoCon play.

For the second time in the past four matches, the 'Cats started the match off by taking the doubles point. Katharine Dicconson and Nisha Crouser won their second together when the duo rolled to an 8-2 victory at No. 2. Then Stephani Synn and Brites Moniz-Soares sealed up the team point with a close 9-7 triumph at No. 1. It was the pairs second win as a doubles team.

Davidson then got wins from Moniz-Soares, Crouser, Elise Held and Frizzi Bschorer in singles action to take home the road win. Moniz-Soares, closing the year out on a strong note, picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles for her fourth straight victory. The sophomore is 14-5 on the year and 7-2 in league play, both being personal bests and tops on the team.

Crouser, who had just one win a year ago, earned her seventh win of the season when she won a super tie-breaker, 10-8, after splitting her first two sets, 6-1, 4-6, at No. 4.

Held and Bschorer won in impressive fashion, scoring a pair of straight-set victories at No. 5 and 6. Held scored a 6-2, 6-1 win, while Bschorer matched her with a 6-2, 6-1 win of her own at No. 6. The duo each recorded their third wins of the season.

Davidson closes out the regular season for the fourth time in the past five years against rival Furman, April 14, at 1 p.m.
