Box Score

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Senior RHP Ryan Overcash yielded just one run and timely hitting in the fourth inning gave Davidson a 4-1 victory over Ohio in non-conference baseball action Friday night at Wilson Field.

Sophomore catcher Chris Dyer (0-for-1) drove in the game-winning run for Davidson (4-2) in the fourth inning with a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt, and RBI hits by senior right fielder Jake Berman (1-for-3) and senior centerfielder Drew Gadaire (1-for-4) in the same inning gave Davidson a 4-1 advantage it would maintain.

Overcash (1-2) earned his first win of the season pitching 6.1 innings and striking out six, allowing one run, five hits, three walks and one hit. He left with two runners on base in the seventh inning, but sophomore RHP Jip Richards retired the next two batters to end the threat. Freshman RHP Ryan Lowe pitched a perfect eighth inning and RHP Clark Beeker earned his first career save with a scoreless ninth inning to extend the bullpen's scoreless innings streak to 14.2.

RHP Seth Streich (0-2) went the distance (eight innings) for Ohio (1-6), allowing four runs on five hits, five walks and three hit batters, while striking out nine.

The game was tied at 1-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, but a leadoff walk by junior shortstop Michael Zeblo (0-for-3) and a hard hit bouncer by Lowe off the first baseman gave the 'Cats two runners in scoring position. With one out, Dyer then pushed a sacrifice bunt past the pitcher to eliminate a throw home and allow the go-ahead run to cross the plate. Berman scored Lowe with an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, which allowed him to score when Gadaire hit a double down the left field line.

The Wildcats scored first in the second inning when senior first baseman Calvin Sigelbaum drove in senior second baseman James Cerbie (0-for-3) from second with a single through the right side of the infield.

Left fielder Chandler Geller (1-for-4) drove in Ohio's lone run in the third inning with a two-out RBI-double to score third baseman Ian Mezlak (2-for-4).

Davidson and Ohio are scheduled to meet again Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Ohio will play Presbyterian in a game at Wilson Field at noon.
