DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson baseball will host NC Central Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a non-conference game at Wilson Field.
Freshman LHP Henry Sisson (3.86, 0-1) is slated to make his second career start for Davidson (4-9, 0-3 SoCon) after pitching five innings in a start at No. 6 North Carolina last week. RHP Jasper Jones (9.00, 0-2) is slated to start for the Eagles (3-13, 2-1 MEAC).
The Series
Davidson is 7-0 in the young series between the two teams that dates back to 2009. The 'Cats earned a 4-2 victory at home and an 11-4 victory on the road in two meetings last season.
Last Time Out
Davidson concluded a five-game road trip and three-game conference series with Appalachian State with an extra innings loss Sunday. The Wildcats are looking to return to the win column after losing their last seven games, including three one-run games of which two went to extra innings. Sunday, Davidson scored three in the top of the ninth inning to force extra innings, but Michael Pierson drove in the game-winning run for Appalachian State in the bottom of the 10th to give the Mountaineers a 5-4 victory. Sophomore catcher Daniel Gerow led Davidson (4-9, 0-3 SoCon) at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a run scored. Junior third baseman Andrew Barna went 2-for-4 with a walk and RBI. Sophomore left fielder Forrest Brandt and senior second baseman James Cerbie were both hitless, but Brandt drove in two runs and Cerbie drove in one.
About the Wildcats (4-9)
Senior Calvin Sigelbaum has started the past eight consecutive games at first base and has a hit in each to become the team's leading hitter (.357). Senior centerfielder Drew Gadaire is the lone Wildcat to reach base in each game so far this season, and has a streak of 19 straight games dating back to last season. Sophomore RHP Danny Mooney leads the pitching staff with a 2.81 ERA.
About the Eagles (3-13)
NC Central has just three wins in 16 games, but is coming off a series win over conference foe N.C. A & T. For the weekend, Luis Diaz led the Eagles at-the-plate going 6-for-13 (.462 batting average) and leads the team with a .361 average for the season. The conference series victory was NCCU's first since 2007 and the first at the Division I level.
