Davidson Men’s Golf Places Eighth at The Invitational Ocean Course

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Led by underclassmen Todd Eckstein and Sam Echikson, the Davidson men's golf team placed eighth with a three-round score of 893 (304+287+303) at The Invitational at the Ocean Course Tuesday, hosted by the College of Charleston.
Eckstein and Echikson both tied for 23rd place at 223, seven-over-par. Eckstein rebounded from a first-round 80 Monday morning with a two-under-par 70 in the second round and a one-under 71 in the final round to climb the leaderboard. Echikson was three-over-par after the first two rounds Monday and fired a four-over 76 Tuesday.
Sophomore Richard Fountain finished one stroke behind Eckstein and Echikson in a tie for 27th at 224. Fountain was tied for sixth after the first two rounds Monday after firing a one-under 71 and an even-72, but he shot a nine-over 81 Tuesday.
Junior John Skeadas also placed in the top-50, tying for 44th at 229 (79+73+77).
Florida was the lone team to finish under par, placing first at 858 (291+276+291), six-under-par. No. 14 UAB (869), South Florida (870) and Maryland (871) claimed places two through four. Host CofC was the only other Southern Conference team in the tournament, rounding out the top five at 878.
The Wildcats placed one stroke behind seventh-place finishing Notre Dame, ranked 31st in the nation by Golfstat.
UAB's Sam Love won individual medalist honors with a seven-under 209.
The 12-team field competed on the 7,504-yard Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, S.C., the site of the upcoming 2012 PGA Championship.
The tournament concludes the fall season for the Wildcats. They will return to action in February 20-21 at the Wexford Plantation Collegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.
