Cheatwood and ‘Cats Second after Day One of River Run Collegiate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Griffin Cheatwood continued his impressive play carding rounds of 69 and 70 to sit tied for second after 36 holes of the River Run Collegiate hosted by the Davidson men's golf team.
Coming off a second-place finish in his collegiate debut last week at UNCG, the freshman led for much of the afternoon before bogeying his final two holes to fall one off the individual lead held by Presbyterian's Spence Hagood (-6).
Cheatwood (-5), who has four sub-par rounds on the young campaign, finished with 11 birdies, the second most in the 75-player field.
As a team, the Wildcats (-3) opened with a two-under 286 before shooting 287 in the afternoon, which puts them just three behind leader North Carolina A&T (-6).
Towson (E) is three back of Davidson, followed by Presbyterian (+1) and Dayton (+2).
Like Cheatwood, Davidson's Nate Faulkner (E) and Clayton Couey (+1) signed for two-under 70s in round two to find themselves tied for 13th and 15th, respectively.
Alexander Paschall (+4) and Davis Sayman (+5) are also in the Wildcat lineup, while Benjamin Newfield (+8), Will Tharin (+9) and Owen Jessop (+6) are competing as individuals.
Tomorrow's third and final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
