
Davidson Football Opens PFL Schedule at Campbell Saturday

Today's Game
• The Wildcats open Pioneer Football League play at Campbell Saturday at 1 p.m.
• It's Davidson's third game against Campbell and second at Barker-Lane Stadium since the Camels started their program in 2008.
• The Wildcats are 3-9 in their last 12 road games, dating back to 2008.
• Davidson is 8-15 all-time in league games on the road, including 3-8 in its last 11.
• The 'Cats are 15-15 in their last 30 PFL contests and own a 21-24 all-time PFL record.
• Davidson is coming off a 41-13 loss at Lenoir-Rhyne last Saturday.
• The Wildcats return 45 lettermen and 15 starters from the 2009 squad.
• Campbell enters the game with a 1-1 record and is coming off a 44-13 home loss to Old Dominion.
• The Camels lost just three lettermen from last season's squad, which posted a 3-8 mark. They return 10 starters on each side of the ball.
• Davidson was picked seventh in the Pioneer Football League, while Campbell was picked eighth, a mere five points behind the Wildcats.
Series Record
• The Wildcats and Camels met for the first time in 2008 at Barker-Lane Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C., and Davidson earned a 49-0 victory.
• The Davidson defense pitched its first shutout since a 31-0 victory over Wesley at Richardson Stadium Oct. 26, 2002. The 'Cats gave up 143 yards of total offense (75 rushing, 68 passing) and forced four turnovers. Davidson combined for 12 tackles for loss and six sacks.
• Kenny Mantuo rushed 20 times for 135 yards and a touchdown to lead Davidson to a 24-7 win in last year's meeting.
• Quarterback Michael Blanchard ran for 91 yards and completed 9-of-17 passes for 83 yards and two scores, while Andrew Aldrich caught four passes for 42 yards and a score. Ben Sarver also caught his first career touchdown pass, a toe-tapper just inside the boundary line in the back of the end zone.
• The Wildcat defense held the Camels, who came into the game averaging over 500 yards of total offense, to 196 yards.
• C.J. Oates led Campbell with 67 yards on the ground and caught three passes for 41 markers, and Daniel Polk threw for 101 yards.
Scouting the Camels
• A total of 21 starters return from last season's team which went 3-8. Rashaun Brown leads the squad in rushing and averages 5.7 yards a carry. Quarterback Daniel Polk has thrown for 247 yards and run for 83 and three TDs.
• The Camels have yet to commit a turnover in two games this season.
• Harrison Jordan leads the team in receiving with 76 yards on eight catches.
• Milton Brown leads the defense with 21 tackles, and Lee Stanley has 19 stops.
Claw Marks
• During head coach Tripp Merritt's tenure, the Wildcats are 16-5 when winning the turnover battle.
• The Davidson defense leads the PFL?in total defense (286.50 ypg) and tackles for loss (9.0/gm).
• Running back Kenny Mantuo ranks 10th on the Davidson all-time rushing list, 128 yards from moving past Kerry Keith into ninth.
• Senior Justin Williams needs 85 punt return yards to become the school's all-time leader. Already Davidson's record holder in kick return yards, Williams needs 1,380 all-purpose yards to break the school's career mark in that category. Williams needs 79 yards to reach 1,000 rushing yards for his career.
• Mark Hanabury needs 283 yards to reach 1,000 for his career.
• Ben Behrendt has 13 career field goals, which ranks fifth at Davidson. He needs two more to move into third.
• Davidson has lost eight of its last nine season openers and are 7-3 in its last 10 home openers.
