GREENSBORO, N.C. – In a battle of fifth-place teams, the Davidson women's tennis team took four of the six singles matches to prevail over host UNC Greensboro, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon in Southern Conference women's tennis action.

Davidson hit the 10-win mark for the ninth straight year as it improved to 10-5, while running its league mark to 3-2. The Spartans fell to 7-7 overall and  2-3 in SoCon matches.

After dropping the doubles point to start the match, the 'Cats came back to take home wins at No. 1-3 and No. 6 to seal up their 10th win of the season.

The lone doubles team to win for Davidson in the three matches was the senior duo of Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Teresa Wang (Charlotte, N.C.) as they took home an 8-1 triumph at No. 1. They are a team-best 10-5 on the season and have rattled off wins in three of their last three matches. They also rank third in the league with their 10 wins.

Berry and Wang took their winning ways with them to the singles matches and punched home two three-set wins. Berry tallied her 10th singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Wang also registered her 10th win with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 2 over Stephanie MacFarlane.

Stephani Synn (Conover, N.C.), tops in the SoCon in winning percentage, ran her singles mark to a team-best 12-1 and remained unbeaten in SoCon matches (5-0) with a straight set, 6-4, 7-5, victory over Valerie Behr at No. 3. The sophomore is a perfect 4-0 at the No. 3 position this year.

Rounding out the 'Cats win in convincing style was junior Samantha Galainena (Burr Ridge, Ill.) with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 6 spot. The junior became the fourth Wildcat on the season to eclipse the 10-win mark in singles play as she improved to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in SoCon matches.

As a team, the Wildcats ran their singles mark to 61-35 overall and 22-14 in league matches.

Davidson will next open up the month of April against cross-county rival Charlotte on the 1st at 3 pm.
