Wildcats Hunt For Eighth League Win on Monday vs. WCU

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's basketball team returns home for a Monday night contest against Western Carolina as the Wildcats seek to pick up their eighth Southern Conference win of the season.

The Opening Tip
The Wildcats (9-10, 7-4 SoCon), look to get back on the winning path after a defeat at Appalachian State on Saturday by playing host to the Western Carolina Catamounts (3-15, 2-7 SoCon) on Monday at 7 p.m. in John M. Belk Arena.

The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
The series has WCU leading at 24-18, but the Wildcats have won two of the last three meetings. They took the first game this year, 62-51, at Western back in December.  

Scouting the Wildcats
•Davidson dropped its fourth league game of the season, a 72-61 decision at App. State on Saturday as the Wildcats were swept in the season-series.
•After winning six straight, and eight of nine during one stretch, the 'Cats have dropped three of their last four games, all league contests.
•Davidson finished 1-2 on its three-game road trip at College of Charleston, Georgia Southern and ASU.
•Saturday saw the Wildcats fall behind by as many as 12 points, but battled back to within three (62-59) with three minutes remaining, before ASU closed out the game on a 10-2 run.
Monica Laune was one of two players to hit for double figures, collecting 16 points, the third time she has paced the team in scoring.
•She has registered 50 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists in the last three games. The senior is also 12-for-23 from the three-line during that stretch.
Alex Thompson (9 pts./7 asts.) saw her double-figure streak of scoring at least 10 points come to a stop at nine games in a row at ASU. The senior averaged 14.2 ppg and shot 50 percent from the field, including 47.6 percent (20-42) from behind the arc, during that run.
•Thompson leads the team in scoring at 13.3 ppg and had a game-high 19 points in the first meeting vs. WCU this season.
Ashley Lax, 15 points on Saturday, is third on the team in scoring at 10.4 ppg and has scored in double figures six of the last seven games.
Sophia Aleksandravicius is second on the team with a 11.9 ppg average and is fourth in the league with her 7.8 rpg average. She has seven double-doubles on the season.
•The Wildcats as a team rank in the SoCon top-five in points per game (66.9- 1st), field goal percentage (.424- 3rd) and three-point percentage (..354- 2nd).
•For just the second time in the last 10 games Davidson was out-rebounded by an opponent when it lost the battle on the boards at ASU, 46-28.
•This will be one of only two home games for the Wildcats during the next seven contests. They are in a stretch of playing eight of 10 games on the road.
•The Wildcats are 5-2 at home, with three of those wins against league foes. They have won five of their last six home games overall.
•Coach Watts (ninth season) is the program's all-time winningest coach with a 139-116 record. She is also closing in on 100-SoCon wins for her career, sitting at 97-64.
•Davidson, which held WCU to 51 points last meeting, has held its opponents to under 55 points six times this season, going 5-1 in those games.
•Last year at home, the Wildcats scored an 84-66 win over the Catamounts on their way to a 7-0 league start. The 'Cats have scored wins in two of the last three meetings.

Scouting the Catamounts
•Western Carolina is coming off a six-day break after playing at Chattanooga (L, 66-68) and at Samford (L, 80-65) back on Jan. 16-18. The Catamounts sit last in the league with a 2-7 record.
•Last Monday, they were done in by Samford's 12 first-half three-pointers, but the Catamounts did outscore the Bulldogs, 37-31, in the second half.
•Since their last meeting vs. Davidson, the Catamounts have just one win in their last 10 games. It was against Furman, 66-58.
•Emily Clarke has been the main scoring threat for WCU, averaging a team-best 13.9 ppg (5th in SoCon) and pacing the team nine times.
•She had a double-double vs. the 'Cats last time, 12 points / 12 rebounds.
•Kaila'She Menendez is also averaging in double figures at 10.1 ppg.
•WCU as a team in last in the conference in scoring at 57.8 and are allowing the opposition to shoot 42.9 percent from the floor (11th in SoCon)
•Western has yet to win a road game this year (0-9).
•Today's game wraps up a four-game road swing for the Catamounts.

Up Next
Davidson will finish out its non-conference schedule with a contest at Radford, Jan. 29. The game was originally to be played back on Dec. 18, but was postponed due to a snow storm.
