DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team opened Southern Conference play with a 7-0 win over Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon at the Knobloch Tennis Center as it swept all six singles matches and the three doubles.

Davidson won its sixth match in the past seven to improve to 7-2 on the season and start SoCon play at 1-0. The win was also the Wildcats sixth straight at home. Chattanooga fell to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in league action.

Like it has in six of his past seven matches, the Wildcats opened with a three-match sweep in doubles play to earn a 1-0 lead in team points.

The duo of senior Kelsey Linville (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.) ran their doubles record to a team-best 6-2 mark with an 8-3 triumph at No. 1.

The No. 3 team of senior Kim Whelan (Sewickley, Pa.) and junior Lora Dushanova (Silven, Bulgaria) scored an 8-0 win at No. 3 to close out the doubles portion of the match.

Davidson then improved to 40-14 in team singles play this year with a sweep of all six singles matches to earn the 7-0 win.

Senior Meredith Skeeters (Greensboro, N.C.) led the way by winning her fifth straight match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Annie Green.

Linville and Berry scored their fourth and fifth singles wins, respectively, on the year with straight set victories at No. 1 and 2.

Junior Dushanova scored her fourth singles win with only one defeat on the season in a victory at No. 6 singles.

Finishing out the wins in singles play was Whelan with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Grace Robinette at No. 4 singles and Fanney with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3.

The Wildcats will play their next three matches in Florida. They will first travel to Flagler College on Mar. 2 for an 11 a.m. match, followed by matches against Jacksonville and North Florida the next two days.
