Wildcats Grind Out Win Over West Virginia

NEW YORK – Stephen Curry posted his fifth career double-double with 27 points and 10 assists, and Davidson held West Virginia to 33 percent shooting in a 68-65 victory in the Jimmy V Classic Tuesday night in Madison Square Garden.
Curry struggled from the field most of the night but had all 10 points in a decisive 10-4 Davidson run late in the game. The run came with Davidson trailing by two points with 2:57 to go and ended with a pair of Curry free throws that put the 'Cats ahead 66-62 with 18 seconds left.
Steve Rossiter got fouled after rebounding a West Virginia miss and hit 1-of-2 from the line. The Mountaineers wouldn't go quietly, and John Flowers made a long 3-pointer from the corner to make the margin 67-65 with 3.8 seconds left.
Davidson inbounded to Bryant Barr, who was fouled. The junior made 1-of-2 from the line, and Devin Ebanks missed a long-distance heave as the horn sounded.
Davidson's defense was stout all night, holding West Virginia to 38.5 percent in the first half en route to a 36-29 edge at the break, and the Mountaineers went 12-for-40 (30 percent) in the second frame.
West Virginia hung close because of a 58-32 rebound advantage, including 29-12 on the offensive end, which turned into 21 second-chance points.
Senior Andrew Lovedale finished with 15 points and five rebounds, and freshman Ben Allison contributed a career-high 10 points and five boards off the bench.
Da'Sean Butler had a career-high 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for West Virginia, while Ebanks had 13 points and 17 rebounds.
