'Cats Open the Season Saturday at Queens

Saturday marks the beginning of the 2026-27 season for Davidson's swimming and diving teams, as the Wildcats visit Queens in Charlotte.
Competition begins at 11 a.m. at the Royals' Levine Aquatic Center, and it starts a five-month push to the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships.
"I think we're all looking forward to visiting Queens — it's fun to start racing," said Davidson coach John Young. "We always expect the Royals to execute well; competing with good swimmers affords us a great chance to assess our starting place. It's an important data point as we map the path to February."
The Wildcats will host three meets at Cannon Pool this season. First on that list is an Oct. 2 date with Duke.
"The Wildcats are young again this year, and after graduating some all-time greats, I'm eager to see who enjoys stepping into impact roles," said Young. "Acknowledging that we have a lot of season remaining, work to do and potential left to explore, our staff feels good about the work the scholar-athletes have put in during our initial build-up. I'm ready to cheer for some good races."

• Davidson will also host Catawba and UNC Asheville (Oct. 30) and Gardner-Webb (Feb. 5) this season.
• The first half of the schedule will culminate with a trip to three-day Bucknell Invitational (Dec. 4-6).
• The A10 Championships are set for Feb. 17-20 at the Hampton Aquaplex.
• Davidson returns one Atlantic 10 champion from a year ago. Henry Shoemaker, now a sophomore, won the 1,650 free (15:09.61) and also took bronze in the 500 free (4:23.19).
• Mitch McClain and Matthew Shnowske have earned silver medals with the 800 free relay the last two years.
• Elle Jacobsen (1M diving) and Ginny Thorsen (200 free) secured A10 bronze in 2025.
