‘Cats Open A-10 Play with 5-2 Win Over Dayton

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team utilized a dominant start in doubles play to fuel a 5-2 victory over Dayton to open Atlantic 10 Conference play Friday afternoon on the Davidson College Tennis Courts.
"We did exactly what we practiced in doubles and were successful," said Davidson head coach Susanne Depka. "Singles we worked through some nerves but were able to pull it out against our first conference opponent. My goal is for us to just get one degree better on Sunday against Saint Louis."
The Wildcats (6-5, 1-0 A-10) set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches. The duo of Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford opened the scoring with a 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot, followed by identical 6-3 scores from the No. 2 and No. 3 pairings to secure the initial point.
In singles action, Kollock continued her efficient afternoon at the top flight, dispatching Natalie Osiecki 6-1, 6-0 to extend the Davidson lead.
The Wildcats effectively clinched the match with straight-set victories from Ellie Hammond at No. 3 and Olivia Hooper at No. 6.
Langford added a hard-fought 6-1, 7-5 win at the No. 2 position to round out the scoring for the hosts.
Dayton's points came late in the order of finish, with Christian Chin winning a first-set tiebreak to top Charlotte Calderwood at No. 4, and Mallory Hitchcock outlasting Keri Rothenberg in a 10-6 third-set tiebreak at the No. 5 spot.
