WASHINGTON — After scoring a game-winning overtime goal against La Salle, Davidson's Matilda Collins has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
It's the first such honor for the senior back from Willingdon, England, who is now tied with Lourdes Wolf for the team lead with eight goals. The two have helped carry the offense after 2026 graduate and A10 Offensive Player of the Year Sib Naaktgeboren scored a single-season school record 21 goals last year.
"Without Sib this year, we knew a number of people would need to step up in terms of scoring," said coach Zoe Almquist. "Tilda has really answered that charge — as our center back it has been such a benefit to also have her take a key role on attack corners and strokes. It's been really cool to see her embrace this role! I'm so proud of her Offensive Player of the Week nod!"
On Friday, Collins' goal 4:50 into overtime lifted the Wildcats to a 2-1 league win over the Explorers. She also assisted on the game-tying goal in the third quarter. Both goals were scored off penalty corners.
Collins ranks fourth in the A10 with 18 points, while she and Wolf are tied for fourth in goals.
Now 8-6 overall and 1-2 in the A10, the Wildcats will host VCU in league play on Friday, Oct. 16.
