'Cats Win 12-1, Wrap Up Sweep at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. — Davidson pitchers limited Fordham to six hits, and the Wildcat bats produced double-digit runs for the third straight game in a 12-1 win at the Rams' Houlihan Park Saturday afternoon.
The eight-inning win secured the fourth series victory and the second sweep (VCU) for the Wildcats, who improved to 14-16 overall and 9-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Fordham (15-17) dropped to 7-5 in league play.
Davidson, which moved into first place in the A-10 with Friday's results, outscored the Rams 39-12 in the series.
Saturday, the Wildcats took an early lead with a four-run second inning, highlighted by JD Woodall's two-RBI single, and they turned a 6-1 lead into a rout with a six-run eighth, which featured Jack Cotrone's two-run home run.
Cotrone finished 3-for-3, while Chris Schuchart was 3-for-5 with a double and also drove in two runs. Woodall, Cider Canon, Eli Putnam and Michael O'Shaughnessy had two hits apiece, with Canon also hitting a double and O'Shaughnessy posting two RBIs.
Starting pitcher Isaac Fix scattered five hits and struck out three, while only allowing an unearned run.
Ed Hall pitched the final three innings and struck out three, while surrendering just one hit.
