CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Davidson men's tennis team split the weekend against its final two non-conference opponents of the season in a trip to South Carolina to face Charleston and The Citadel.Â
The 1-1 weekend result puts the Wildcats record at 11-9 overall while its conference mark remains 2-1.Â
"It was a good weekend with a hard-fought match against The Citadel for our guys," said head coach Drew Barrett. "The Bulldogs are always a tough opponent to play on their home courts."
Davidson put up an ample fight in doubles action Saturday with Juan Camilo Perez Gongora and Uddayvir Singh teaming up for a 6-2 win on court two while the Cougars took the triumph on court one. The duo of Nikhil Mukherjee and Davide Procacci battled hard but ultimately fell 7-5 on court three.Â
Freshman Gregorio Hidalgo was able to pick up a win for the 'Cats via 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 to give Davidson its lone point of the day. Both Procacci and Nico Pinzon came back to win their second sets after falling in the first to push their matches to three. However, Charleston was able to pull out wins on the remaining five courts to close out the match.Â
Sunday saw Davidson open the day on a strong start with Perez Gongora and Singh cruising to a 6-1 No. 1 win while Pinzon and Hidalgo got the job done on court two with a 6-3 advantage.Â
The winning ways carried through singles play as the 'Cats earned two-set victories on courts two, three and five and gutted out three-set wins on courts four and six to take the match 6-1.Â
