Wrestling Falls on the Road to Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Davidson College wrestling team fell to the Bellarmine Knights, 42-3, in Southern Conference dual action on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats' lone win came in the second match of the day after a forfeit at 157. Freshman Bryce Griffin trailed 5-3 with 1:20 left in the second period after giving up and escape. After returning to neutral, the Illinois native countered a shot by Bellarmine's wins leader, Cole Nance. Griffin secured the takedown and put Nance on his back for a four-point near fall, resulting in a six-point swing and a 10-5 lead.
Nance was able to cut it to a one-point lead twice, but the first-year man held firm for a 12-11 win. With the win, Griffin moved to 14-11 on the year and 3-3 in SoCon duals.
It was all Bellarmine the rest of the way as they took the remaining eight matches with five bonus-point wins.
Up Next
Davidson will return to Belk Arena for their final home dual this Friday night against VMI. The program will also honor their five seniors for Senior Night.
