Wildcats Primed for Road Test at UMass

DAVIDSON - The Davidson women's basketball team is set for an key Atlantic 10 match up with Massachusetts on the road 1 p.m. Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY...
The Wildcats will look to close the gap in the all-time series with the Minutewomen who currently hold a 9-5 advantage in their final season as a member of the A-10. Despite the overall record, Davidson has been the victor in two of the last three meetings including the most current one a season ago. 

Davidson rolled past UMass 72-42 Jan. 24 inside Belk Arena in what was, the 100th  win of coach Gayle Fulks' career. 

Mallorie Haines scored a game-high 15 points to lead the way, while Charlise Dunn added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Maddie Plank narrowly missed a double-double of her own with 14 points and nine boards to go with a game-high five assists, while Issy Morgan and Katie Donovan scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Millie Prior had four blocks to go with eight points and six boards. 

Kristin Williams was the lone Minutewoman to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points.

LAST TIME OUT...
Davidson placed four players in double figures and used a pair of lengthy runs to cruise past Loyola Chicago, 68-51, in Atlantic 10 women's basketball action Feb. 5 inside Belk Arena.

The Wildcats held the Ramblers to just 33.3 percent and controlled the glass, 41-27, including 21 second-chance points.

Kyra Bruyndoncx paced the 'Cats with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Haines added 12, all coming in the third quarter, while Prior and Dunn finished with 10 points each. Donovan and Tomisin Adenupe just missed the 10-point plateau with nine and eight, respectively.

DOMINANT DEFENSE FROM THE ARC...
Ranking seventh in the nation and first in the Atlantic 10 in opponent 3-point percentage at just .247, the Wildcats have continued to defend the arc well entering the final contests of the regular season. So far this season, Davidson has surrendered just 76 total made 3-pointers, allowing its opponents to hit more than six triples only one time this season.

The 'Cats have held its competitors to no made 3-pointers on three occasions this season (0-6 Presbyterian, 0-3 Charlotte, 0-8 George Mason).

AN ALL AROUND EFFORT...
Over 22 games (prior to Loyola Chicago), the Wildcats have found immense production from its bench when called upon to enter the game. So far this season, the Davidson bench has outscored its competitors bench by +138 (469-331), attesting to the Share, Shoot, Stifle mantra of the program.

Getting out to a fast start has proven to bode well for the Wildcats. In its games this season, the 'Cats are currently 10-1 when they are leading at the halftime break.

UMass is currently on a four-game winning streak having defeated VCU (Jan. 25), George Washington (Jan. 29), La Salle (Feb. 2) and St. Bonaventure (Feb. 5). 

In its most recent win, the Minutewomen bested the Bonnies by a sizable 81-54 margin inside the Mullins Center. Freshman Yahmani Mckayle led the way tying her season-high of 21 points on a 7-of-12 effort from the floor and 5-of-8 showing from 3-point range in addition to tacking on four rebounds and five assists. 

Yahmani ranks second on the team in scoring with 13.0 points per game while also dishing out 3.0 assists and grabbing 1.9 steals per contest. Megan Olbrys leads the Minutewomen with 13.9 ppg, 8.1 rpg and 3.1 apg while shooting an impressive .565 from the field, .400 from beyond the arc and .810 at the charity stripe. 

So far this season, UMass is averaging 63.9 points and 37.0 rebounds a game while holding its competition to 58.4 points and 32.8 rebounds per contest. The Minutewomen are connecting on .411 percent of their shots from the field, .337 percent at 3-point range and .741 percent at the foul line.
