Bailey Hits Milestone, But ‘Cats Drop Heartbreaker at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – Dayton placed five in double figures, finished 21-of-24 at the line and closed with a 10-2 run over the last 48 seconds to get by Davidson 69-63 Tuesday night inside UD Arena.
Despite Davidson falling to 13-9 overall and 3-6 in A-10 play, Reed Bailey became the 56th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club. The league's leading scorer finished with a game-high 19 points to go along with eight assists.
Trailing 42-32, the 'Cats slowly chipped away and eventually went back in front, 61-59, on a driving layup by Connor Kochera with 51 ticks left.
On the ensuing trip down the floor, Davidson was whistled for a technical foul, resulting in Javon Bennett making two free throws, followed by a 3-point play, putting Dayton (16-7, 6-4 A-10) ahead for good.
Bennett was one of three players to lead the way with 13 points for the Flyers.
Kochera added 17 points, while Bobby Durkin had 13 for the 'Cats, who held the Dayton to just 37.5 percent from the floor.
Davidson shot 43.6 percent for the game, but got to the line just 11 times, making 10.
Neither team led by more than five in the first half as Dayton went to the locker room up 28-26. The Flyers turned second-chance opportunities and Wildcat miscues into 17 points in the opening 20 minutes.
After Davidson went back in front with four straight points to begin the second half, the Flyers responded with a 14-2 flurry to take their largest lead of the night, 42-32.
