Durkin's Career Night Leads 'Cats Past Bethune-Cookman

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Bobby Durkin scored a career-high 23 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Davidson past Bethune-Cookman 76-63 in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday evening inside John M. Belk Arena.
Continuing their best start under third-year head coach Matt McKillop, the Wildcats improved to 9-3 overall.
A sophomore from Darien, Ill., Durkin finished 8-of-15 from the floor, while also grabbing a personal-best 10 rebounds for his first double-double in a Wildcat uniform.
He was joined in double figures by fellow starters Reed Bailey (19), Zach Laput (15) and Connor Kochera (14).
In addition to matching his season average in scoring, Bailey finished a perfect 9-for-9 at the charity stripe to go along with six boards and five assists.
Davidson used a 16-8 spurt early in the opening 20 minutes to go in front for good. The 'Cats led 41-34 at the half, highlighted by 17 points from Durkin.
The Wildcats, who finished the night shooting 52.9 percent, pushed the margin to as many as 20 on a Bailey layup with just under two minutes play.
Bethune Cookman (3-9), playing its 10th game away from home and eighth true road contest of 2024-25, was led by Reggie Ward, Jr. and Brayon Freeman, who scored 14 points each.
