Wildcats Drop Non-Conference Dual Against American

DAVIDSON – The Davidson College wrestling team competed in their final dual of the 2024 calendar year against the American University Eagles in Belk Arena on Sunday. Tyler-Xavier McKnight, Tanner Peake, and Bryce Griffin came out with wins in a 25-9 defeat.
The Eagles jumped out to a 13-0 lead behind a major, a pin, and a win by decision over the first three matches. Sophomore Tyler-Xavier McKnight stopped the run with an 11-4 win over Gage Owen to bump his record to 12-3 this season. It was the sixth straight match were McKnight scored either 10 or more match points or pinned his opponent. The Georgia native is also now 5-1 in dual action.
Captain Tanner Peake kept his winning ways rolling. The No. 27-ranked wrestler in FloWrestling's rankings this week won his sixth straight match with a 4-2 decision over Jack Nies. The win put Peake at 9-3 overall and remains a perfect 6-0 in duals.
Freshman Bryce Griffin won his second straight match with a commanding 8-2 decision over Kaden Milheim. The first-year man out of Illinois got his third dual win in four matches and improved his record to 6-4 on the season.

Fifteen Wildcats will wrestle at the Wilkes Open this coming Friday (Dec. 20) in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The event is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.
