FORT MYERS, Fla. – Unable to overcome a fast start by Belmont, Davidson fell to the Bruins, 69-59, in non-conference women's basketball action on the final day of the Fort Myers Tip-off Saturday evening.
The setback drops Wildcats to 3-5 overall with four more non-conference games on the 2024-25 schedule.
After Davidson grabbed the early 5-0 advantage, the Bruins reeled off nine straight points as part of a 13-2 run to go in front for good.
Belmont (3-4) shot 69.2 percent in the opening quarter before finishing at a 50-percent clip, while holding the Wildcats to just 23-of-56 (.411).
The 'Cats cut the deficit to 21-15 at the end of one, but Belmont started the second quarter fast, eventually carrying a 39-25 lead into the half.
Charlise Dunn paced the Wildcats with a season-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds. Freshman Candice Lienafa added 14 off the bench on 6-of-7 shooting (2-of-2 from 3-point range) for her fifth double-figure performance of the season.
A Dunn layup capped a small spurt to get the 'Cats within 47-41 late in the third, but the Bruins answered again stretching the margin back to double digits.
