'Cats Drop Midweek Match to VCU

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite a third set that took 64 points to determine its winner, the Davidson volleyball team fell to VCU in a gritty midweek matchup on Tuesday night.
After falling behind 4-0 to start off set three, freshman Meile Songaila's sixth kill of the match got the 'Cats started in the 33-31 frame. Davidson produced a match-best five total blocks in the third, while swinging .288 before the Rams narrowly edged out the Wildcats with a .293 attacking percentage.
Sophomore middle blocker Melanie Tilles led the night with two solo blocks and five assists, as Davidson matched its season-best in blocking with 10 total blocks.
The Wildcats out-swung VCU .265 to .195 in set two, but five of the Rams' six service aces of the night helped the visitors pull back in front late to secure the 25-23 victory.
On the other side of the net, the 'Cats had nine errors from the end line.
Overall, Isabel Decker led the way with 14 kills, while Emma Slusser had an impressive 13 kills on 23 swings (.522). Songaila, in her fourth career start, also added 13 kills to the stat sheet.
