STATE OF THE 'CATS
Davidson comes into Sunday's match having just dropped four dual matches in a two-day span during last week's Davidson Duals. The Wildcats fell to Little Rock (45-3), Harvard (30-6), Lock Haven (31-10), and Brown (24-10).
Plenty of freshman have seen action for head coach Nate Carr Jr. so far this season, but newcomer Tyler-Xavier McKnight has been an explosive mainstay at 149. The Cartersville, Ga. native leads the team in wins with a dozen so far on the season. Other newcomers John Hager (133) and Wyatt Ferguson (184) have also seen plenty of dual action early on as Hager has started the last six duals while Ferguson has started in all nine.
Marc Koch (165/174), Cameo Blankenship (197), and Jake Fernicola (HWT) each secured a pair of wins for the red and black last week. Both of Koch's victories came on day two, one at 165 in an overtime decision against Brown, then the other at 174 in an 8-4 match over Lock Haven. Blankenship edged out Harvard's Max Agresti, 6-4, on the first day and followed up with a 7-4 decision over Lock Haven's Cael Black. Fernicola grinded out a 1-0 decision over Harvard's Logan Marissal then came back the next day and defeated Lock Haven's Ethan Miller in a 13-0 major decision.
SCOUTING THE CAMELS
The Camels enter Sunday ranked 30th in InterMat's dual rankings and are coming off a sweep of the Chippewa Challenge in Bakersfield, California this past weekend. Campbell beat American 26-9, Central Michigan 20-14, and CSU Bakersfield 39-3. Prior to that, the Camels dropped close duals to Purdue (21-17), #19 Stanford (19-17), and defeated North Dakota State (30-13) back on December 19.
Entering Sunday's dual, the Camels have six wrestlers in the projected lineup that are nationally ranked. Anthony Molton (125) jumped into the rankings at #26 after winning his last nine matches. Domenic Zaccone (133) sits at #22 with a 16-5 mark, Dom Baker (165) is ranked 33rd at 10-5, and Austin Murphy (174) is ranked 24th while sporting a 14-7 record.
Campbell's top wrestlers at 197 and heavyweight also own top-20 rankings. Levi Hopkins sits at 19th with 16 wins to six loses while heavyweight Taye Ghadiali is ranked inside the top-10 with a 22-3 record, the most by any ranked heavyweight.
