State of the 'Cats
Davidson is coming off a tight dual match with Duke last Friday night where five Wildcats came out victorious. Bryce Sanderlin, Marc Koch, Cameo Blankenship, Joshua Viarengo, and Tyler-Xavier McKnight all got their hands raised in that match.
Sanderlin, a senior, returned to action two weeks ago and has won his first three matches since making his way back onto the mat. The Chesapeake, Va. native defeated Gaetano Console of Duke in a 7-1 decision in his most recent match which was a solid win as Console had defeated the 17th-ranked wrestler in the 165-pound weight class two weeks prior.
Sophomore Marc Koch picked up his first win at 174 when he earned a 5-2 decision over Duke. The New Jersey product now has a 5-4 record on the season with five of those wins coming in his last six matches.
As the 'Cats enter their final match of the calendar year, a freshman leads the squad in wins. Tyler-Xavier McKnight has impressed in his first 13 matches after earning his team-leading eighth win over Duke, and he also has a victory over a ranked opponent on the young season.
About the Pioneers
Sacred Heart comes to Davidson still looking for their first dual win of the season at 0-5. The Pioneers squared off with wrestling powerhouses in No. 2 NC State and No. 3 Cornell as well as LIU, Bloomsburg, and SoCon foe, Presbyterian.
SHU is led by Aidan Zarella (165), Ryan Bollentino (174), and Andrew Fallon (133). Zarella leads the Pioneers with ten wins in his first 14 matches this season all in tournament action. Bollentino has secured nine wins in 15 matches across four tournament events.
Fallon comes in with a 5-2 with his two losses coming against ranked opponents. He fell to Northern Iowa's Julian Farber who sits 17th in this week's InterMat rankings and Campbell's Domenic Zaccone who is ranked 14th. Fallon is a perfect 4-0 in dual action this season and scored the team's only points in their loss to No. 3 Cornell and defeated his opponent against No. 2 NC State.
