‘Cats Rally from 11 Down to Capture River Run Championship

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson fired a tournament-low 11-under 277 Tuesday afternoon to rally from seventh place and capture the 2022 River Run Collegiate title.
Junior Alex Heffner (75-73-66 = 214 | -2) and senior Ethan Hall (73-72-69 = 214 | -2) paced the Wildcats, finishing tied for third out of 99 competitors. Heffner, the 2022 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, carded a 6-under 66 on his final 18 holes, while Hall posted five birdies and two bogeys to shoot 69.
The Wildcats (299-291-277 = 867 | +3), who trailed overnight-leader and eventual runner-up East Carolina (296-283-291 = 870 | + 6) by 11 strokes, got off to a fast start Tuesday and quickly erased the double-digit deficit with 10 birdies on their opening nine.
Joshua Stewart, a Florida State transfer, finished just outside the Top-10 for Davidson with a 54-hole total of 217 (75-72-70).
Last year's A-10 Rookie of the Year, Will Davis, was also solid for the Wildcats, bouncing back with an even-par 72 this afternoon.
Brian Garrett was also in the starting lineup for Davidson, while Jackson Bode, Adam Lauer, Price Miller and Mel Deasy competed as individuals.
Up Next: The Wildcats will travel to Winston-Salem for the Old Town Collegiate hosted by Wake Forest Sept. 26-27.
