Charleston Southern Takes 4-3 Decision over Davidson Sunday

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Davidson played its third down to the wire match this season and came out on the wrong end of a 4-3 decision on the road Sunday at Charleston Southern at the Buccaneer Tennis Center in women's tennis.

The match came down to No. 5 singles where Mira Gladstone played out a three-setter against the Buccaneers' Luiza Fullana. Gladstone took the first set, 6-3, but saw her day end though as she fell 6-2, 6-3 in the next two sets to give CSU the team win.

"There are a lot of lessons to learn from today," said head coach Susanne Depka. "We improved in some areas, but still have alittle ways to go in order to get to be where we want to be. Again, we had an opponent who competed well when they were down and we need to invest in our processes early in the match, so when it gets closer and they start to raise their level, we are ready and not afraid. We have been put in difficult situations many times now which will only make us stronger and help us down the road."

Charleston Southern (4-4) started the match by taking all three doubles spots despite Davidson battling in each one down to the end. The scores were 6-4, 7-6 and 7-5.

The Wildcats' (4-5) three team points came from Alexandra Abele, Elizabeth Truluck and Nicole Krykanov at No. 1, 2 and 6 singles positions. Abele needed an extra set to win her sixth straight, but came out victorious with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph to run her singles mark to 6-2.

Truluck improved to 2-5 on the season with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Krykanov earned her first win of the season with a three-set 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 decision.

Davidson will take a little break until facing Duquesne, March 3, in a neutral site match in Charleston, S.C.
