UNCG Pulls Out 4-3 Decision Over Davidson

GREENSBORO, N.C.  — In a matchup of old Southern Conference foes, Davidson fell short in a 4-3 match at UNCG Wednesday afternoon in women's tennis at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
 
The Wildcats fell to 8-7 on the year, while the Spartans ran their record to 5-9.
 
UNCG took two of the three doubles matches for the first point and went on to clinch the match with singles wins at No. 1, 3 and 6 positions. The match was decided at No. 3 when Gabrielle Centenari fell in a hard-fought three-set match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Erika Barquero.

Megan Schlovinck and Elizabeth Truluck won the lone doubles match, pulling out a 7-4 tie-breaker win at No. 1 for their eighth win together.
 
The three Wildcat team points came from Alexandra Abele, Samantha Armas and Truluck at No. 2, 4 and 5 positions. Abele reached double-digits in wins with her 10th of the season after taking a 6-2, 7-5 decision for her second-straight win.
 
Armas got back on the winning track with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set victory to improve to 11-3 on the season. The junior has eight wins at No. 4.
 
Reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honoree Truluck won her third consecutive match by coming back from a set down and winning a thrilling tie-breaker, 6-2, to secure a strong 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 victory. The first-year is a team-best 12-3 on the season, with a 9-3 record at No. 5.
 
Davidson takes on Brown next in a 3 p.m. match at home, March 26.
