KINGSTON, R.I. – Jon Axel Gudmundsson recorded Davidson's first triple-double in 46 years and the Wildcats shot 61.1 percent en route to a 75-66 victory at Rhode Island Friday evening inside the Ryan Center.
Gudmundsson finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to join John Falconi (Dec. 28, 1973 – vs. Loyola) in the Davidson record books.
With the triumph, the Wildcats have hit the 20-win plateau for the 16th time under head coach Bob McKillop as they improve to 20-7 overall and 11-3 in A-10 play.
In addition to its best shooting performance of the 2018-19 campaign, Davidson went 9-of-13 from behind the arc.
KiShawn Pritchett hit all four of his 3-point attempts to finish in double figures for the third straight game with 13. Luka Brajkovic added 12, while frontcourt mate Dusan Kovacevic had a season-high 10 off the bench for the Wildcats, who held the Rams to just 37.5 percent shooting.
The 'Cats opened the second half on an 11-4 run highlighted by consecutive 3-pointers from Pritchett and Luke Frampton to push the margin to 16 and put the game out of reach.
Rhode Island (12-14, 5-9 A-10) also placed four in double-digits led by Tyrese Martin's 16. Cyril Langevine grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and was one of three Rams to score 12 points.
Despite 11 first-half turnovers, Davidson shot 63 percent in the period and closed on a 10-4 spurt capped by a shot Gudmundsson banked in from about 65-feet at the buzzer.
Up Next
Davidson will conclude its stretch of six out of nine away from home with a 7 p.m. tip at La Salle on Wednesday.
