BOSTON, Mass. – Jon Axel Gudmundsson scored a season-high 28 points to lead Davidson past Northeastern, 70-63, in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon inside Matthews Arena.
Gudmundsson, last year's Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, finished 9-of-12 from the floor and drilled six of the Wildcats' nine 3-pointers. The senior was joined in double figures by Luka Brajkovic, who added 14 points.
Davidson (4-5) shot 59.1 percent in the second half to conclude the game at 51.9 percent, which included a 9-of-21 effort from deep.
Jordan Roland, the nation's second-leading scorer, led three Northeastern (5-5) players in double digits with 24 points.
After the Huskies' started the final 20 minutes 6-of-7 from the floor to even the score, 45-45, Davidson responded with another run to push the margin back to double figures, 58-47, and take the lead for good.
The backcourt duo of Gudmundsson and Kellan Grady grabbed seven rebounds apiece as the 'Cats held a 29-28 edge on the glass.
Davidson broke open a two-point contest with a 16-6 spurt, highlighted by four 3-pointers, two each from Mike Jones and Gudmundsson. The Wildcats led by 12 in the first half before going to intermission up, 37-29.
