Davidson Stays Unbeaten in A-10 Play, Rolls Past Richmond

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson put five scorers in double figures and remained undefeated in Atlantic 10 play by cruising at home to a 78-55 victory against Richmond Wednesday night inside John M. Belk Arena in women's basketball.
The Wildcats, who led by as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter, won their season-best fourth straight and a program-best sixth in a row in league play dating back to the end of last season to improve to 10-7 overall and 4-0 in A-10 play. The win continues their best start in league play since joining in 2014-15.
Justine Lyon scored 18 points, 10 in the second quarter, to pace the offense. Sarah Donovan followed with 16 points, going off for 12 in the fourth quarter when the 'Cats outscored Richmond 29-19. They shot a blistering 73.3 percent in the quarter (11-of-15).
Behind four triples, Kianna Speight scored 14 points, Katie Turner had 11 to go with eight assists and Kelly Fitzgerald netted 10 points off the bench.
The Spiders (3-14, 0-4 A-10) were led by Jaide Hinds-Clarke's 17 points and Aniyah Carpenter had 13 points.
Richmond led 9-7 early in the first quarter, but Davidson took over with an 18-4 spurt that carried into the second quarter and led the rest of the way.
The Wildcats put the game away in the third quarter, turning a 35-30 lead into a 49-36 advantage at the end of the quarter and led by 29 (78-49) on Saeeda Abdul-Aziz's three-ball late in the fourth quarter.
Davidson shot 46.8 percent from the floor, canning nine three-pointers and hitting 11-for-12 free throws. It forced 28 turnovers and turned those into season-best tying 33 points. The Wildcats also dished out 20 assists, their third game this year hitting that mark.
Davidson wraps up a two-game homestand Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup against Massachusetts.
